Hermoupolis, within 5 km, is a neoclassic town that shone in the mid 18th century, with its Town Hall and grandiose square, Apollo theatre and Saint Nicholas Cathedral. The city is preserved quite well, with its unique, fine buildings and functions nowadays as a modern town with public services, stores, bars, taverns and restaurants. Many cultural events take place here in Syros island. Sometimes it is quite difficult to make up your mind which one to choose.
Ano Syros is a marvelous mediaeval village; it is the place we left behind in order to set up LouKouM. We long for the past, when we sat on the terrace and watched the ships come and go right in front of us. Do go for a drink to Feggari, have a meal or buy some gifts at Tasos, Katerina or the other stores of the Piatza, on the central street.
From LouKouM there are many trekking paths that lead to Chroussa, Faneromeni, Ano Mana. The nearest store is 3 km away but unfortunately there is no public transport nearby. Car rental is necessary for shopping, exits, visits to Ermoupolis and other villages, beaches and for your independence.
Are you fond of the town? Hermoupolis is wonderful, indeed. Several magnificent houses are open to the public: Villa Maria, Villa Thalassographia, Mansion Hermoupolis, Ploes. The owners, all friends, have given a distinct touch to their spaces, always shaped with unique taste and charm.
A 30 minutes fly from Eleftherios Venizelos (one flight daily but at different times!), 3H30 from Piraeus Port (2-3 boats daily), half an hour from Mykonos, Syros is the exact destination to explore the Aegean Sea.
